Jewish Invention Could Save American Truckers Gas

With gases in America reaching an all time high (or at least according to those buying gas at $3 per gallon), this smart invention may help trucking agencies reduce the amount of gas they use while delivering goodies across the US.

(Israel National News) Israeli researchers at Tel Aviv University have developed a device which is likely to save the U.S. trucking industry some $400 million per year. The drag reduction device, an actuator, was exhibited at the "World's Best Technologies Showcase" in Texas.

Through the combined action of suction and pulsed blowing of airflow, the device reduces drag in a controlled manner when it is attached to the back of the truck or trailer.

It's great for them to have this device for truckers in the states, although I wonder if they would consider inventing something similar for the average car? Hmm...

Robot "Blade Cutter" May Help Slash Airline Prices

I am still mystified by how the "economics" of this whole thing works, but it seems that a blade cutting machine for jet engines may be able to help cut the cost of airfare (something desperately needed as they seem to be milking every dollar/shekel out of our pockets).

(Globes Online) Iscar Ltd. subsidiary Shafir Production Systems Ltd. will unveil at 19th International Exhibition for Technology Developments 2007computerized production systems, including a robot for sharpening jet engine turbine blades that it developed for Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR). Shafir said the system could cut airfares. The company said the precision in production could slash fuel costs, savings that airlines could pass onto passengers.

Everybody whose anybody (or at least travels to meet other bodies) will definitely appreciate the savings in their wallets. There is no word which companies are set to use this new piece of technology, although I wouldn't be surprised if some of the newer airlines picked this up first before the older ones.

Environmentally Friendly Buses

It looks like the Dan Bus service will be switching to environmentally friendly buses fairly soon.

(Israel National News) The new vehicles will be equipped with an anti-air pollution system that is designed to reduce the levels of carbon dioxide and pollutants.

Whether global warming is true or not, one thing is for sure--Israeli's are pro-environment when it comes to their technology.
